Talk is not cheap

Dr Mark HassedThe old saying is that "talk is cheap" but in dental practice nothing could be further from the truth. The daily cost of keeping the doors open for a modern, well equipped, well staffed dental practice are about $4,000.That equates to $500 per hour. Many dentists make a big thing about their excellent chair side manner and how they really get to know their patients. They chat with their patients about football, the weather, holidays, hobbies and so on.The question that needs to be asked is: "Is chat with patients so enjoyable that you're happy to pay $500 per hour to do it?"For me the answer was always "no".When I want to chat I go to a restaurant with friends, where I can enjoy several hours of chat for a mere $33 per hour. So, what's the answer to cutting unnecessary chat? The solution is getting rapport fast and presenting treatment in a rapid, effective manner.
