President Obama's suits

Dr Mark HassedSometimes I get asked why I make such a big thing of developing systems in a dental practice. The reason can be summed up in two words: Decision fatigue. The was a recent article published in the Harvard Business Review that quotes President Obama from the United States.

"You'll see I wear only gray or blue suits. I'm trying to pare down decisions. I don't want to make decisions about what I'm eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make."

President Obama's philosophy applies to dentistry.Do you really want to be burning up your mental energy at the office filling in lab sheets, writing referral letters and deciding which bonding material and burs to use?Aren't you better off deciding about those things once and then setting up a system so they happen automatically? Then you preserve your mental energy for things that can't be decided automatically such as the length and diameter of an implant or how to redesign an occlusal scheme. If you need help getting the systems in your office right then give me a call. You won't believe how much easier the day become when you get mundane decisions off your back.
