Step away from the keyboard

Dr Mark HassedThe best use of a dentist in a dental office is treating patients. Anything that takes the dentist away from that is detrimental to efficiency. One of the biggest distractions most dentists have is typing on the computer — patient notes, referral letters, messages to the front desk, emails and even Facebook. If dentists would just step back from the keyboard and let their intelligent and motivated team take over that role they could save an hour a day or more. And, in the case of patient notes, the quality would be improved. The reason is that team make the notes as the discussion between dentist and patient is taking place, whereas the dentist often makes the notes hours later when their memory has faded. So, dentists, try to touch the computer keyboard as seldom as possible. Leave that to your excellent team.
