Making patients feel good about their decisions

Dr Mark HassedSome years ago I bought a silk tie at Nordstroms. At the counter the sales assistant stopped and admired the tie as he folded it and said: "Beautiful tie sir. Very nice choice."

Maybe what he said was sincere or maybe it was just something he was trained to always do. Either way, I didn't care. It made me feel good and it confirmed my wisdom in having shopped at Nordstroms. When your patients make a wise treatment choice do you compliment them on their decision? Do you let them know that they have made the right choice? If you don't then you really should.Making patients feel good about themselves reflects well on you. It is a very cheap and easy form of marketing.
