Do it now…

After an extended break to refresh and reset I’m back and looking forward to what the remainder of 2023 and next year have to offer.

A recent experience

Through misadventure I’ve been dealing with local council recently and it has been a lesson in how NOT to work efficiently.

When dealing with local council, any decision that can be delayed will be delayed.

“What time is it?”

“I’ll need to check with my supervisor and get back with you.”

Any deadline that can be missed will be.

“But you said you were going to call back a week ago.”

“We’ve been busy.”

It’s extremely annoying and unproductive for all concerned. A friend told me that he took early retirement as a builder because, after 30 years of working with local councils, he couldn’t face it anymore.

This got me thinking

When I was in practice I was in the top 2% of dentists with respect to productivity. One of the key things behind this was a “do it now” philosophy.

Anything that could be done immediately, was done immediately. Any decision that could be taken straight away was taken straight away.

“I’ve got time. Would you like me to fix your broken tooth today?”

The patients liked it — they got their problem fixed immediately. And, I liked it, it kept me constantly busy and productive.

“Would you like us to get started on your fillings today?”

“Yes please!”

Do it now…

If you can flex your schedule to allow for doing tasks immediately your productivity will increase exponentially.

Don’t push tasks off into the future like the local council.

Trust me on that.
